Forgotten Spaniard flies in for Liverpool’s pre-season bootcamp

Posted by

We remember being pretty excited about Luis Alberto when Liverpool confirmed a deal to sign the young Spaniard back in summer 2013.

Granted, it was mainly based on YouTube videos, which got us similarly excited about Oussama Assaidi; but Alberto’s performances and record for Barcelona and Sevilla’s B teams was impressive.

He stayed with us for just one season, our title pursuit – and due to the success of Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge in the attacking positions – Alberto didn’t get much of a sniff.

For the past two seasons he’s been back on loan in Spain, enjoying spells at Malaga and Deportivo, but will now try once more to make the Anfield grade.

No 23, Alberto uploaded a snap of himself and fellow Spaniard Alberto Moreno flying into John Lennon Airport, from where they’ll head to respective houses and get ready for tomorrow: the first day of pre-season.

He’ll have some job convincing Jurgen Klopp he has what it takes to compete with the likes of Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane for minutes, but we wish him luck in his pursuit of doing so. He’s technically very good, and stranger footballing resurrections have happened.
