Our new head of fitness, Andreas Kornmayer, has promised that the whole squad will be in great shape ahead of the upcoming season.

Kornmayer was snapped up from Bayern Munich and is a world-renowned fitness coach. He might not be a glamorous “marquee signing”, but given the tactics Klopp likes to deploy, he could be just as important as some of our big-money transfers.

“In the first sessions it’s important that they get a feeling for the ball again and to get a handling with the ball,” he said (via official site)

“We have some topics to put in, some strong topics in my opinion; some endurance topics, of course. And we will mix it with football and then we are on a good way.

“First of all, I have to get to know the players. Check everybody and see where we are. Then we can work with them, do the programmes and progress for everybody, the whole squad.”

His progress so far with the squad will be tested this week, as we go head-to-head with Tranmere in our first friendly of what is a gruelling pre-season schedule.

We play nine games in total – including three in the US.
