One phone-call from Jurgen Klopp and they’re packing their bags and boarding a flight to John Lennon!
This summer we’ve pinched renowned fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer from Bayern Munich, and according to the German physio, once he’d spoken to our manager his mind was made up.
“I was looking forward to being here and working here. For me, it is a brilliant thing to get this chance here. The first days were really great,” he told the official website.
“I have a good feeling. [Travelling] from the apartment to Melwood, it all looks great and I’m really happy to be here.
“[Klopp] was my first contact. He called me and asked me; we talked about everything,” he said.
“To be honest, I didn’t have to think about it for too long. I was really impressed with what he said to me and impressed that the club wants to have me. I’m happy.”
Last term, Liverpool struggled very badly with injuries, and the manager has clearly brought Kornmayer in to try and increase his players’ base levels of fitness before the new campaign.
Stars such as Coutinho, Jordan Henderson, Daniel Sturridge and Mamadou Sakho missed large portions of the season, and we’re convinced our Premier League finish would have been significantly higher had we not got so unlucky.
Klopp’s tactics demand endless fitness, physicality and dynamic sprints – so it’s essential the players are prepared well by Kornmayer and the backroom staff this summer ahead of a pivotal season.
Without European football, we have a chance to really do something in the Premier League, but a fast start is essential.
Liverpool’s pre-season training started at the weekend, and Kornmayer has explained what’s been going on at Melwood so far.
“In the first sessions it’s important that they get a feeling for the ball again and to get a handling with the ball,” he continued.
“[The plans are] not only designed by me. We – the coaching staff – design them.
“We have some topics to put in, some strong topics in my opinion; some endurance topics, of course. And we will mix it with football and then we are on a good way.
“First of all, I have to get to know the players. Check everybody and see where we are. Then we can work with them, do the programmes and progress for everybody, the whole squad.”
