Liverpool could reject the chance to play in the new EFL Trophy next season.
The EFL Trophy is a revamped version of the old Johnstones Paint Trophy. From this season, selected Premier League U21 sides are allowed to participate.
The following Category One academies have been invited:
- Leicester City
- Manchester City
- Manchester United
- Newcastle United
- Stoke City
- Swansea City
- Tottenham Hotspur
- West Bromwich Albion
- West Ham United
However, the Echo report that we have not received assurances from the Football League over several key questions – chiefly among them the requirement for at least one game to be played at Anfield.
Andy Kelly writes that the decision to reject to reject the invite will not be taken lightly, especially with Klopp keen to keep the brightest young talents at Liverpool rather then sending them out on loan.
