Liverpool U21s could reject chance to play in revamped EFL Trophy

Liverpool could reject the chance to play in the new EFL Trophy next season.

The EFL Trophy is a revamped version of the old Johnstones Paint Trophy. From this season, selected Premier League U21 sides are allowed to participate.

The following Category One academies have been invited:

  • Arsenal
  • Chelsea
  • Everton
  • Leicester City
  • Liverpool
  • Manchester City
  • Manchester United
  • Middlesbrough
  • Newcastle United
  • Southampton
  • Stoke City
  • Sunderland
  • Swansea City
  • Tottenham Hotspur
  • West Bromwich Albion
  • West Ham United

However, the Echo report that we have not received assurances from the Football League over several key questions – chiefly among them the requirement for at least one game to be played at Anfield.
