(Tweet) Transfer looks imminent as club tweets about long-serving Red

Martin Skrtel’s transfer to Turkish outfit Fenerbahce looks all but done, with his new club tweeting about our Slovakian centre-back today.

We’re reliably informed that this translates as ‘Talks with Martin Skrtel have begun’!

A fee of around £5.5m has been mooted for some time now, and it appears only a matter of time before the 31-year-old defender finalises his move away from Merseyside.

Skrtel’s been a loyal servant, although sullied his reputation last week by disrespecting his manager Jurgen Klopp during an Instagram conversation with a friend. This though should be forgotten considering he’s been with us since 2008 and played a big role in our title pursuit of 2013/14, and Liverpool fans will wish him all the best.

With Joel Matip arriving though, and Joe Gomez fit and training, Skrtel is simply surplus to requirements, and in fairness – it’ll be nice to start a campaign knowing he’s not going to be used at centre-back.

Time and time again last season his lack of communication or poor positioning caused us to directly concede, but we’re sure he’ll fare batter in the Turkish league in 2016/17.
