Liverpool take Ecuadorian centre-back on trial

According to a tweet by Ecuadorian club Independiente Valle, Liverpool have taken young centre-half Josue Mauricio Quinonez on trial.

Their tweet includes a letter from the club, inviting the 16-year-old on tour with the Under-18s, along with a picture of the South American apparently on board a plane to England.

The letter, from Dan Hargreaves, Liverpool’s Academy Scout Coordinator, invites Quinonez and a club official from Ecuador to join the young Reds in Germany between the 11th and 23rd of this month.

It reads:

“Liverpool Football Club would like to respectfully request permission for Josue to travel on our U18s pre season tour of Germany from the 11th to the 23rd July inclusively. We would also like to extend an invitation for a club official to accompany him for the duration of his stay.”

How Quinonez came to the attention of Liverpool, we don’t know, but it shows the enormous breadth of our worldwide scouting system.

We can only assume the defender is mighty talented if the club are willing to bring him from South America to Germany for 12 days, and we wish the youngster luck on what must be a pretty exciting, but also nerve-racking experience.
