Nigerian international implores country to call up Liverpool youngster: ‘That boy is the future’

It’s important to remember that our two friendlies of pre-season so far have been against Tranmere and Fleetwood, but the performances of Ovia Ejaria haven’t gone unnoticed by supporters – and they’re actually drawing attention from elsewhere too.

John Ogu, the 28-year-old Nigerian with four caps to his name, thinks his country should be moving heaven and earth to secure Ejaria’s international future.

Ejaria has impressed with his quick feet, bravery on the ball and physicality which belies his age, but the suggestions of a call-up for any country is a little premature!

The midfielder was born in London, and we snared him from Arsenal in 2014, but he does have Nigerian heritage and would be eligible for selection should they decide.

Interestingly, Jordon Ibe had the same decision to make last season, and plumped for England – although he’ll have to recognise those ambitions with Bournemouth now a £15m transfer has been completed.

We had enormously high hopes for the winger, too, so it’s important to let Ejaria develop at his current rate. Jurgen Klopp will know what’s best for the starlet, anyway.
