Klopp keen on £10m left-back monitored since Dortmund days

We’re thought to be in the market for a left-back this summer, as our only real option at the moment is Alberto Moreno – who many feel just isn’t cutting it. The latest player to be linked with an Anfield switch is Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi, with the French youngster apparently a player Jurgen Klopp admires greatly, according to French sources (via the Express).

The 22-year-old isn’t exactly the top class full-back most fans are wanting to see join the club ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, but Klopp is seemingly keen. The German manager has apparently been monitoring him since his days in charge of Borussia Dortmund, and looked at the possibility of bringing him in back then too.

Although Aston Villa were pretty shocking from back to front last season, when Amavi wasn’t injured he actually performed pretty well. He was one of the standout performers, and he does seem like a likely candidate to jump straight back up to the Premier League.

As the report states, he cost Aston Villa £10m just a year ago, but there’s no suggestion of how much he could cost us if we moved for him this summer. Villa are unlikely to be able to do much to hold onto him if he wants to leave, but there’s no telling how much they’ll demand.

If Amavi were to be the player we moved for then he’d presumably be backup (or at the most a bit of competition) for Moreno rather than a replacement, and many fans would rather see someone more capable of taking the starting spot away from Moreno rather than someone to play second fiddle.
