Injury threatens to derail transfer plans & impact start of season

Lucas Leiva was forced off with injury during our pre-season clash with Huddersfield, and the scans are suggesting it may be a nasty one (via the Echo).

The report suggests he could miss at least a month with his hamstring injury, which means not only will he miss the start of the campaign, but his future could be in jeopardy too.

The Brazilian has recently been linked with a switch to Galatasaray (via the Echo), and despite being among the longest-serving players at the club, his time at Liverpool looked to be coming to an end.

If he can’t get over his injury issues before the transfer window slams shut then it could certainly hamper his chances of securing a move away from Anfield, as few clubs are likely to take a chance on a player struggling with injury.

It would be a shame to see him rot on the bench at Liverpool as he heads into the twilight of his career, so hopefully if he’s not in Jurgen Klopp’s plans then he’s able to secure a move away from the club this summer.

It wouldn’t be the worst things in the world to have a player capable of playing backup in both midfield and centre-back positions remain at the club a little longer, but after all he’s done for the club we don’t want him to waste away on the bench.
