Wow… Some huge news is breaking from America, where Liverpool are currently on pre-season Tour.
Jurgen Klopp, not the medical staff, has sent Mamadou Sakho back from the camp to continue his achilles rehab at Melwood.
This is because, according to James Pearce in the Echo, of concerns about his attitude and his behaviour during the summer so far.
Injured players such as Joe Gomez and Lucas are similarly out of action the Tour, but are allowed to stay and continue their rehab with their team-mates stateside.
Sakho was booked on the same flight which took Brad Smith back to England last night, with the Australian having a medical at Bournemouth.
Now, there are naturally doubts surrounding the French centre-back’s future. Jurgen Klopp has signed Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip this summer, and with Dejan Lovren already occupying one of the slots at the heart of the backline, there will be suggestions that Sakho is surplus to requirements – especially once Gomez returns to fitness.
Not from EOTK you understand; we love Sakho and hope he can rectify this situation. We imagine it’s likely a result of him not being allowed to play since April because of his false doping charge, and now the achilles rehab which is seen him sidelined for the summer, too.
