Liverpool’s Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi is expected to spend the forthcoming season on loan at NEC Nijmegen, reports the Echo.

We acquired the teenager last summer from his home country after impressing at the Under-20 World Cup, but he spent last term on loan at Frankfurt in Germany to help earn a work-permit.

This season, the 18-year-old will test his mettle in the Eredivisie, hoping to get more game time than the 14 appearances he managed in the German second tier last time.

The African forward scored just once for Frankfurt, but has a year of European experience under his belt now and his potential new club are managed by Peter Hyballa – a former Under-19 coach at Borussia Dortmund while Jurgen Klopp was at the helm.

Hyballa has a reputation as an excellent youth coach and will hopefully give Awoniyi opportunities to impress.

The striker’s quick, rangy and powerful – and will hopefully be able to replicate his excellent form for his country at club level.

Allan Rodrigues de Souza, Liverpool’s teenage Brazilian, is expected to spend the season with Hertha Berlin – in a similar bid to get a work-permit.
