We play Chelsea on Wednesday evening (US time) / Thursday morning (UK time) in the first match of this summer’s International Champions Cup.

The friendly competition is simultaneously held in the United States, China, Europe, and Australia as 15 teams battle for the not-so-prestigious glory.

Joking aside, the Chelsea game is the first real test of our pre-season. We’ve won all four games so far and not even conceded a goal.

Klopp has been giving his thoughts ahead of the match. He admits it’s not too important and that his side will not be 100 percent in terms of fitness, but he still wants to see a good performance from the lads.

“Pre-season is always the best opponent you can get in the wrong moment,” he said.

“If it was another moment, you could rest before, you could do something else, but we have trained a 95-minute session this morning and it was quite warm outside – but we had to do it, it was important.”

“Now we play Chelsea and I don’t know exactly what level they are at (and) we meet each other again in a few weeks.

“It’s not the most important game in the world, but we have to learn and use all we have in terms of knowledge, rhythm, fitness and put it in a game because if you wait for the perfect day (for a match), you’ll wait until you’re old and grey!

“It’s clear we cannot be at 100% , but I’m not interested – I want to see the 100% that is possible on this day.” (via Echo)
