This was totally out of order from Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
During the second-half of their 1-0 friendly win over Liverpool in the early hours of our Thursday morning, the Spaniard lunged in on our Estonian defender – who had to be substituted as a result.
Fabregas missed the ball and planted his foot right on Klavan’s ankle, which could easily have snapped. The more you watch it, the worse it gets. Thankfully the injury is not serious and just a knock, but considering this was the first friendly of the tour, you really have to wonder what on earth Fabregas was thinking.
Fabregas saw a red-card and his since issued an apology. Had Klavan been out for months, it would have been very difficult to accept.
Before the incident, Klavan was arguably our best player, which is promising considering Mamadou Sakho’s disciplinary problems and Joel Matip’s ankle injury.
