Liverpool playmaker could make surprise switch to the Championship

Luis Alberto did very well in La Liga last season, on loan for Deportivo, but could now move to an English Championship side instead of permanently back to Spain…

Liverpool signed the attacking midfielder back in summer 2013, but after failing to establish himself during his debut season, Alberto spent the past two seasons on loan in his homeland.

Sevilla were interested in signing the 23-year-old but couldn’t agree a fee with Liverpool, meaning Wolves, QPR and Aston Villa could swoop, according to the Echo.

Liverpool have set a £6m asking price says the report, which is roughly what we spent to acquire him three years ago.

It says much about the money currently available to English clubs that the Europa League winners have been priced out of a potential deal but Championship sides are still in the running.

It remains to be seen whether Alberto will be interested in a move down the leagues, with regular first-team football surely the priority for the playmaker. He’ll get that in the Championship, but after performing well in La Liga during 2015/16, he may want to hold out for a more glamorous switch.
