Liverpool star could be awarded bumper new contract; reacts accordingly

Liverpool want to extend Emre Can’s contract, even though it still has two years to run, writes Dominic King in the Daily Mail.

The German powerhouse is still only 22, but has established himself as one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp’s team-sheet due to a number of physical, composed performances at the base of midfield last term.

King says the club is working on a new contract offer, although the player has told supporters he’s yet to begin discussions.

“There have been no discussions yet,” he said.

“I am enjoying my time here.

“It’s a great club, like a family, I’m very happy to be here and still have two years left. It’s been a very, very tough pre-season and our target is to be the fittest team in the league which is why we train so hard and do a lot of runs.

“It’s very important for us.”

Can’s potential is unbelievable. Already he’s above the likes of Jordan Henderson and James Milner in the pecking order. Both are seasoned England internationals and are very good players in their own right, so the fact Klopp trusts Can so implicitly speaks volumes.

Expect to see him at the heart of midfield against Barcelona on Saturday and more importantly, against Arsenal a week later in the Premier League… It’ll be interesting to see who the boss decides to deploy alongside him, with new signing Gini Wijnaldum also in contention with Henderson and Milner.
