Crystal Palace are desperate to conclude a deal to sign Christian Benteke and could wrap up a transfer by the end of the week, writes Matt Law in the Telegraph.

The report claims the Eagles are happy to match his £120k-per-week wages and will officially up their £25m bid, which was initially rejected by Liverpool earlier in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp has told Benteke he can leave Anfield and the striker is now preparing himself for a transfer to the south London club.

We bought Benteke for £32.5m last summer, but he failed to adapt to Klopp’s pressing style, with the manager preferring forwards who can pull wide or run in behind like Divock Origi, Roberto Firmino or Daniel Sturridge.

Once he’s sold, Liverpool will have actually made money during this summer’s window thanks to a number of impressive sales including Joe Allen, Jordon Ibe and Martin Skrtel.

If we can challenge the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City, who’ve both spent way, way over £100m net – it would be one of Klopp’s biggest ever achievements.
