James Pearce savages Palace’s ‘add-ons’ included in rejected Benteke bid

Crystal Palace today had a £23m plus £7m in add-ons bid rejected for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke.

All in all, this would have reached £30m, a fee we’d likely consider accepting – but the reason for our refusal is because the add-ons are totally unrealistic – meaning we’d be very unlikely to see the extra £7m…

Deals often include add-ons for things like number of appearances, number of goals and trophies won, but according to James Pearce of the Echo – Palace’s were stupidly ambitious – as shown by this sarcastic tweet…

Perhaps Palace stated that if Benteke wins a Ballon d’Or and they capture the league we’ll get the full amount, which is obviously a little farcical!

It looks like the Eagles will have to offer us a straight cash sum, and not try to earn a bargain deal with such complicated offers.

They’ve just sold Yannick Bolasie to Everton for £25m as well, meaning we’re aware they’re in a financially strong position.

If Palace don’t stump up the cash, we’re certain another Premier League club will. Everybody has cash to burn, it seems, and Benteke is a proven goalscorer at domestic level.
