Liverpool’s James Milner is unhappy at being turned into a left-back

This update should come as a surprise to nobody…

Expectedly, James Milner is pretty disappointed with Jurgen Klopp’s decision to use him as a fullback this season, which is even less appealing than the right-wing role he mostly played at City.

This is according to respected Liverpool journalist Chris Bascombe, who also claimed in his Telegraph column that despite Milner’s annoyance, the 30-year-old will give his utmost to the role due to his professionalism.

The reason Milner moved to Liverpool for less wages than he was offered at Manchester City in 2015 is because Brendan Rodgers promised him regular football in central midfield.

But fast forward a year and the Englishman, one of our highest paid players, is now first-choice left-back despite having never played the position during a versatile and successful career in which he actually peaked as a no.10!

Alberto Moreno is a defensive liability but is not going to be replaced, meaning the position will be covered by Milner and the dodgy Spaniard in 2016/17. We think this is verging on the absurd considering the money at our disposal, but Klopp’s earned our trust and this decision will lie on his head.

Hopefully Milner flourishes at left-back and ends up enjoying the position which will allow him plenty of freedom to drive down the flank and get involved in attacks.
