Widely loved on-loan defender backs Liverpool to challenge this season

Posted by

Jon Flanagan has said he expects Liverpool to be challenging for major honours this season – though he comments were made before the loss against Burnley!

Flanno, of course, is on loan at Dyche’s outfit. He couldn’t play yesterday due to Premier League rules preventing players from playing against their parent clubs.

“I think there is a lot of belief there now and a lot of fight,” he said. “I feel like they’ll do well this year with the one game a week and no European football.

“That will do them well and hopefully they’ll be up there challenging. It was a fantastic win for them last week against Arsenal, not many teams score four there and while they have things to improve on it’s a great start.” (via Echo).

The full-back also spoke about his exit from Liverpool, revealing that Jurgen Klopp told him there would be limited opportunities this term.

“It’s tough for places at Liverpool and the manager said there might not be much game time. I had a couple of options, but I spoke to the gaffer here and I felt this was the right place for me to push on.

“It’s been great here so far. The lads have made me feel extremely welcome and I’m enjoying training but I can’t wait to start.”
