Mamadou Sakho is back in training ahead of Tuesday night’s League Cup game with Burton Albion.
The French international picked up an Achilles injury just before we travelled to the USA for our pre-season tour and International Champions Cup obligations. He has not played since April when he was banned for failing a drugs test.
He did travel to the US with the rest of the squad, but was sent home for disciplinary issues.
However, the 26-year-old appears to be getting ready to return.
Images in the Echo show him back in training for the first time since his injury – though they report that game against Burton will probably be too soon for him.
It’s unfortunate – a match against a lower league opposition would have been the perfect way to ease himself back in.
Would you put him straight back in the first team at the earliest opportunity? Let us know in the comments.
