Klopp reacts to Sakho loan availablity; Jurgen’s sharp response suggests underlying issues

Liverpool thrashed a hapless Burton outfit 5-0 in the EFL Cup last night, but despite his side’s excellent performance, Jurgen Klopp was asked about Mamadou Sakho in the press conference.

On Monday evening, news emerged that Klopp had put Sakho up for loan – much to the dismay of many supporters who regard the Frenchman as Liverpool’s best centre-back.

Considering we’ve conceded five goals in our opening two Premier League fixtures, the news seems all the stranger, especially with Sakho just returning from injury and being completely acquitted from his incorrect drugs ban.

The official line from the club was that Sakho would be loaned to help him regain form and fitness, but Klopp’s blunt quotes intimate to us that there’s more going on behind the scenes – or he would’ve just said it was a fitness issue – like with Jon Flanagan for example.

“I’m happy that I don’t talk in situations like this,” Klopp said yesterday’s EFL Cup win, reported in the Echo.

“Everybody who needs to be informed about this has been informed about this.

“There are no secrets with the important people, I would say.”

Thankfully, Joel Matip made his debut and impressed last night at the heart of defence, and it looks like the Cameroonian may be partnered with Dejan Lovren at the back for the foreseeable.
