No, we’re not talking about Lucas, who once again seems to have pulled off the ultimate Houdini act by avoiding the chop.
Rather, we’re talking about Mamadou Sakho – who despite being told to find a new club by Klopp this summer has chosen to reject various loan approaches and fight for his place. (Independent)
Whether it was an inspired decision or an act of sheer folly remains to be seen. On the one hand, it shows a bravery and a determination which could appeal to Klopp. On the other, he’s openly defied his manager’s wishes by once again refusing to act in the professional way in which the German demands.
One thing is clear – after this summer he’s now very much fourth choice centre-back behind Lovren, Matip, and Klavan. There’s a case to suggest he might even be sixth choice when Gomez and Lucas are fully fit. He faces a long battle to get back into our first team.
