Divock Origi starts but fails to fire as Belgium lose to Spain in Brussels

Divock Origi was named in Belgium’s starting eleven for their game against Spain tonight, but he was powerless to prevent his side losing 2-0.

It was former Everton boss Roberto Martinez’s first game in charge after being a surprise choice to replace Marc Wilmots after the Euros, but it was a nightmare start for his as his squad were roundly booed throughout the second half.

The boos reached a crescendo when he chose to sub off Kevin de Bruyne with three minutes remaining (via Mirror).

Origi lasted 67 minutes before being replaced by Martinez’s former star, Romelu Lukaku.

Simon Mignolet was an unused sub, as was our former striker Christian Benteke.

Origi and co. now need to group themselves together before their World Cup qualifying campaign kicks off next Tuesday against Cyprus. They are in Group H along with Bosnia, Estonia, Gibraltar, and Greece.
