Mario Balotelli left us on on the final day of the transfer window, joining French club Nice on a free transfer.
Of course, Liverpool fans everywhere are delighted to see the back of him – but the fact we lost £16 million on him in two seasons was perhaps the only sore point of an otherwise excellent transfer window in terms of player sales.
For most of the summer – rightly or wrongly – we were led to believe we were having serious difficulty in attracting any suitors. There were endless rumours about possible destinations, but none of them came to fruition.
Now, however, we are all scratching our heads about why we didn’t get any income from his departure. According to his agent, Mario had offers from across the continent, including a few English clubs:
“Nice was a technical decision,” Raiola said to Premium Sport (cited on Echo).
“We had alternatives in England, Spain, Germany and Italy, but Mario is happy.”
The question is, do we accept Mino Raiola’s comments as being fact? Is he just trying to save some face for his client? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
