Lucas vows to improve league position after an “OK” start to the new season

Three games, four points. Would you have taken that before we kicked off against Arsenal three weeks ago?

Perhaps – but not if one of the games included a loss to Burnley.

No reason to be downhearted though – we’ve played the sides that finished second and third in the league last season away from home and taken four points. It could be a lot worse.

Lucas knows this too.

He expressed his frustration with the start of the season and specifically that Burnley loss, but knows that the other two results can be viewed in a positive light.

In an interview with the official site, he called the start “OK” but claimed the whole squad wanted to move higher up the table quickly.

“I think it’s an OK beginning. We’ve played three games away from home in a row, and against two teams who will challenge for the top four and the title, so it’s not bad,” he said.

“The Burnley game was a strange one because we had a lot of the ball.”

“But we need to get points and win games in a row as soon as possible because we want to be higher in the table.”

We are currently 11th and already lie five points behind United and City – but if we can beat Leicester next weekend we will make ground up one at least one of them as they go head-to-head in the Manchester derby.
