Liverpool 4-1 Leicester – Player Ratings: Sturridge and Firmino shine in fantastic team performance

Posted by

We have just beaten Leicester City 4-1 in the first home game of the season.

Firmino and Mane put us 2-0 up before Lucas gifted a goal to Vardy to make it 2-1 just before the break. Lallana made sure of the win with a thumping second-half goal and Firmino added the icing with a late fourth.

Here’s how our lads performed on an individual basis:

GK – Simon Mignolet 7.5/10: Flapped at a cross and arguably should have been in a better position when Lucas made his error. Made a great save from Vardy in the second half.

LB – James Milner 8/10: Was vital to the first goal. His willingness to get forward is a boost, but dislike of left foot remains an issue.

CB – Lucas 5/10: Was playing well before his inexplicable error, then lost confidence. Is it time to talk about Sakho?

CB – Joel Matip 8/10: Solid on the floor and commanding in the air. Exactly what we’ve been missing.

RB – Nathaniel Clyne 8/10: Not his most eye-catching performance, but didn’t put a foot wrong either.

CM – Jordan Henderson 8/10: We get the impression that the captain is slowly clawing back his best form.

CM – Gini Wijnaldum 8.5/10: Gini was a metronomic beat in the centre of the park. Grabbed the assist for Lallana’s goal.

CM – Adam Lallana 8.5/10: It’s still not clear if Lallana is better as a wide front man or in a midfield three. Either way, it was a top performance.

AMR – Sadio Mane 8/10: He was a constant danger and is rapidly becoming a fan favourite.

AML – Roberto Firmino 9/10: Bagged two lovely goals and offered an array of clever and neat touches.

ST – Daniel Sturridge 8.75/10: Supplied two assists and missed two good chances. Looks so much better with Mane to support him.

SUBS:

Philippe Coutinho 7/10: Looked a touch rusty after all his travelling.

Kevin Stewart 7.5/10: Played well and broke up attacks. It’s clear why Klopp likes him.

Alberto Moreno N/A: Played the last two minutes of injury time.
