Sadio Mane says Liverpool could have played even better, despite thumping reigning Premier League champions Leicester City 4-1 at Anfield on Saturday evening in the first home game of the new season.
His words will surely resonate around the league. We have already scored four against two of last season’s top three sides.
Mane got on the scoresheet when he made it 2-0 midway through the first half. Sturridge was the architect, breaking free of the offside trap and delivering a lovely backheeled flick to put the ball into the path of the Senegal international. Kasper Schmeichel got a hand on the shot, but it still bounced into the back of the net.
“Everybody’s really happy. It was important for us to win,” Mane told the official site.
“I don’t think it was our best game but we deserved to win because we created many chances. We could have scored two or three more goals but I think everybody is satisfied with the performance.”
Mane, of course, was our most expensive summer signing as we paid Southampton around £36 million for his signature. He has started his new Anfield career in fine form, scoring against Barcelona, Arsenal, and now Leicester, and being a constant threat with his dazzling skills and breathtaking speed.
Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that he stays fit and maintains his great form.
