Club legend Phil Thompson has been speaking about what makes Anfield such a special place.

The historic ground is one of the most storied and famous locations in world football, with the atmospheres during big games unlike anything else in the country.

He has been offering his thoughts to the official website as part of a new documentary for LFC TV called “This is Anfield”.

“The people are what make Anfield so special,” he said.

“The humour, the support, the chants – on those big days when everybody is singing it doesn’t get much better than that.”

It seems a season never goes by with at least one game that rises above all the others. Last term we saw the drama of the Dortmund comeback, and two years ago we witnessed incredible scenes for the City home game during our title charge.

Fans lined the streets for miles before the game, creating an atmosphere that would intimidate even the most hardnosed visiting player.

With an extra 8,500 people inside the ground this season, you can be sure that the next time a truly massive game roles around, the place will be even more special.
