Emre Can passed fit as Liverpool get huge injury boost ahead of cup clash

Emre Can has been passed fit by Jurgen Klopp.

The German international has been out of action for a month since picking up an ankle injury against Burton Albion during the second round of the League Cup.

He returned to full training last week, but Klopp opted to leave him out of the squad that travelled to Chelsea as a precaution.

Now, however, Klopp says he is fit and raring to go.

“Emre’s in training and when he’s in training then he’s available,” said Klopp.

“He was last week in training but we took him to the side to do some specific work because he didn’t have a proper pre-season, and now with injuries then he’s not been available for three or four weeks. It [the game at Burton] was not yesterday, that’s for sure.

He stressed, however, that no decision has been made on whether or not to give him a start against Derby County on Tuesday night.

“He’s available and now he can collect match time. How much, if he starts or not [against Derby] – no decision until now.” (official site)

There are lots of players who are on the fringes of the first team – like Kevin Stewart and Lucas – who might be given starts ahead of him.

That said, we’d be very surprised if we didn’t see him on the pitch for at least a sizable part of the second half.
