Watching Kevin De Bruyne play football this season, Jurgen Klopp must be wondering what could have been…
It turns out that in 2013, when Jose Mourinho was foolishly trying to sell him for Chelsea, the brilliant Belgian was very close to signing for Borussia Dortmund when Klopp was in charge. What’s more, De Bruyne regrets not pushing through the move.
This is according to Kristof Terreur, an ultra reliable journalist who reports on all things Belgian.
Klopp had a plan in 2013: a Dortmund midfield with a.o. Gundogan & De Bruyne. The Belgian agreed personal terms. #CFC rejected a move. #MCFC

De Bruyne afterwards regretted not pushing for the Dortmund move. The only time in his career he didn’t follow his gut feeling.

Of course, De Bruyne went to Wolfsburg and immediately hit the ground running – winning the Bundesliga Player of the Year award and eventually earning a mega money move to Manchester City.

This term, under Pep Guardiola, he’s been easily the best player in the top flight so far – putting in a particularly scintillating performance verses Bournemouth at the weekend.
But in fairness, Liverpool have a plethora of exciting attacking midfielders ourselves. De Bruyne’s stunning, but watching Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana, Coutinho and Roberto Firmino at times this season has been just as enjoyable. Let’s hope they keep up the good work. It’s Derby tomorrow, but a key Premier League clash with Hull next weekend.
