Divock Origi insists on no complacency ahead of tonight’s EFL Cup tie

Divock Origi’s 15 months at Liverpool have allowed him to expect the unexpected when it comes to Premier League sides coming face to face with teams from England’s lower divisions in the cup.

Liverpool will face their second Championship side in a row in the EFL Cup this evening as Jurgen Klopp’s men travel to face Derby County at the iPro stadium, having emerged 5-0 winners against Burton Albion the previous round.

The Rams currently sit in 20th place in the league, but Origi will be taking nothing for granted.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: “That’s the special thing about England – you never have an easy game. We have to go there with big hearts and be willing to fight, but I’m sure if we do this we can win, for sure.”

The Belgian striker also expressed the importance of his side’s work ethic against a team desperate to snatch a confidence boosting win.

He added: “We have to go into it with a lot of positive energy and try to outmatch them in every way, that means also in the physical part – I think that is very important. In games like this, things can happen fast. We will try to do everything to get the win.”

Origi’s campaign has been a slow burner as far as his game time is concerned so far, but he could be given the chance to spearhead the Liverpool attack this evening as he continues to fight for a starting spot in the league and build on the impressive form he displayed towards the end of last season.
