Liverpool’s European ranking shoots up due to good start to 2016/17; above Manchester United

We’re not sure what this means or whether it’s especially important, but any time we’re above Manchester United in a table is worth noting.

The European Club Index has updated its rankings, and Jurgen Klopp’s men are now in at no.15, ahead of Zenit but one behind Chelsea. (We’re not really sure how they’re ahead of us considering their miserable season in 2015/16, but we suppose their title win in 2014/15 carries over points.)

At the top is European champions Real Madrid, who lead the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Atletico and PSG.

These are the names Jurgen Klopp will one day hope to be competing with, with his young Liverpool side aiming for Champions League qualification this term…

So far, we’re going the right way about it. Ten points from five games in the Premier League sees us very much in contention, with excellent away wins at Arsenal and Chelsea only blotted by our shock defeat to Burnley – where we still broke possession and shots-on-goal records…

It’s Hull City next, followed by a run of seriously winnable games until the Merseyside Derby mid-December.

We’ve got Swansea, United, WBA, Palace, Watford, Southampton, Sunderland, Bournemouth, West Ham and ‘Boro before we travel to Goodison…
