Carragher explains how he finally lured Klopp onto MNF; before Jurgen broke the internet

Nearly every football fan in the country watched Jurgen Klopp dominate Monday Night Football early in the week…

Our German boss trended worldwide for sharing his wonderful football philosophy with us all. Even fans of Manchester United and Everton begrudgingly accepted that he came across quite brilliantly.

Jamie Carragher, a regular on MNF, set up the meeting and explained how he managed to persuade Klopp to eventually come on the show ahead of Burnley v Watford.

Interestingly, more people watched when Klopp was on than they did the game itself!

Carragher told the 5Times Podcast : “He was brilliant. Afterwards everyone was talking about it and it seems like it went down well.

“We knew before we got him on he is box office. He has done the job before in Germany, but he has just got that type of character that whatever he puts his hand to people instantly take a liking to him because of his charisma.

“And he obviously knows what he is talking about because he is one of the top managers out there.

“I’m delighted Liverpool have got him and delighted he came on the show – I’ve been asking him for about 12 months. He went down a storm.

“I don’t know Jurgen Klopp that well. I’ve met him a couple of times and had a five or 10 minute chat with him to try to get him on the show.

“I don’t see him at Anfield and I don’t go to Melwood, so I don’t have a massive relationship with him .

“But he is one of the top guests to get on and fortunately we did it, and he has got me some brownie points with Sky, I would imagine!

“Everybody respects him and enjoys watching him. So it wasn’t just Liverpool fans watching him Monday, it was fans around the country.”

There were some fans complaining that Klopp was giving away his Liverpool secrets, but they miss the point. Klopp’s tactics aren’t secret because he uses them every week! Any club scout can analyse Liverpool’s strengths and our dynamic style, but putting together a team to counteract it is another matter entirely.

Hopefully, we’ll keep up the good form away to Swansea on Saturday, as we don’t have another game for 16 days after the trip to Wales.
