Much-loved former Red adds his voice to those backing Liverpool for possible title glory

Can Liverpool win the league this season? It always pays to err on the side of caution, but there has been an increasing murmuring from pundits and ex-players who think this season could, finally, be our year.

The latest to add his voice to the chorus is our much-loved former full-back, John Arne Riise.

The Norwegian left-footer has admitted he loves Klopp and think we are in with a serious chance of winning the domestic game’s biggest prize.

“I love Klopp. He’s passionate, the way he likes to show emotions on the pitch, with the players when they’re scoring, with the fans,” he said (cited on Echo, via Goal)

“And his style. He likes to have this high pressing tempo and because this season Liverpool will play less games than normal, I think it’s going to work out for him.”

“I think Liverpool will be there to challenge. But I think City are too strong. Surely, though, next year they’ll challenge, but also this year.” (Echo)

Riise won plenty of silverware during his seven-year spell on Merseyside, including the Champions League, UEFA Cup, two FA Cups, and two League Cups — so he knows a thing or two about what it takes.

Riise eventually left Anfield in 2007 and went on to play for Roma, Fulham, APOEL, Aalesunds FK, and two sides in the Indian league before hanging up his boots for good earlier this year.
