Nathaniel Clyne pinpoints which three Liverpool youngsters he is most impressed with

Did you know Jurgen Klopp has already used 45 different players in the first team since he took over a year ago?

Some of those were forced by circumstances as injuries, games, and drugs bans (!) piled up last spring – but it also underlines his commitment to our youth setup.

And right-back Nathaniel Clyne thinks it’s easy to see why Klopp has placed his faith in the academy and Kirkby – because the players in our youth ranks are actually really, really good.

“There’s a lot of good, young players out there. There are a few – I see some of their games and they are doing really well,” he said (official site).

“Sheyi Ojo is really good. Trent Alexander-Arnold is another one who impresses. Marko Grujic is good as well. He is very confident on the ball, he has got a good shot as well. I am enjoying training and working with him.

“I am growing up as a player, really, and I can definitely give advice to these youngsters who are coming through to the first team or who are trying to get into the first team if they need any help, and I could look out for them and help them.”

The likes of Sheyi Ojo, Kev Stewart, Brad Smith, and Connor Randall were all given plenty of chances last season, and he’s looked to youth again over the summer with the signings of Marko Grujic and Loris Karius.

Ojo has not yet featured this season due to an injury and Smith was sold to Bournemouth, but Kev Stewart continues to be the German’s go-to man when he wants to protect a lead.
