Huge controversy as Mancunian referee appointed for Liverpool vs Man Utd

Posted by

Anthony Taylor has been appointed as the referee who will take charge of the Liverpool vs Man Utd clash next week. (Echo)

Aside from the fact that Taylor is widely considered to be one of the weaker refs in the league (he’s hugely inconsistent and frequently indecisive) – the far more concerning fact is that he is a Wythenshawe native.

For those who don’t know, Wythenshawe is a massive council estate just eight miles south of Manchester city centre and seven miles from Old Trafford.

Fast-forward to today and you’ll find him living in Altrincham – a leafy Manchester suburb that’s less than six miles from Old Trafford.

It seems like a rash decision to put him in charge. He has never taken charge of a game of such magnitude, and even though he “theoretically” supports non-league Altrincham, giving him the whistle when he is born and bred in the shadow of Old Trafford is certain to raise questions.
