Mignolet explains why he’s opened a coffee shop

Simon Mignolet has lost his goalkeeping spot to Loris Karius at Liverpool and to take his mind off it, has opened a coffee shop in his native Belgium!

In fairness, he was probably opening it before the German nicked the gloves, and it’s not like he’ll have any more time on his hands as he’ll be on the bench every game!

The shop is called TwentyTwo Coffee – a homage to his Liverpool shirt number, which Mignolet claims has helped bring him success in the sporting field to date.

It’s run in Sint-Truden, our 28-year-old’s hometown, and will serve food, sell beer and show Liverpool games!

He told Belgian newspaper HLN, cited in the Express: “I myself will not serve the coffees, but I will trust the running of the business to my brother Wouter, who will be assisted also by my wife Jasmien.

“The name of the shop, TwentyTwo, is a nod to my shirt number. I hope it gives me the same success as the game.

“Football and sports will never be far away here. We want to show Liverpool matches and other sports live.

“However, coffee remains the most important. We want to serve the best homemade coffee in Hesbaye. And for this we have made our own blend.”

Outside of his coffee shop, we’re most likely to see Mignolet again in the EFL Cup, with a Last 16 tie with Tottenham scheduled for the end of the month. With Karius currently occupying the Premier League spot, it would make sense for Jurgen Klopp to keep the Belgian fresh and motivated with appearances in this competition.
