Outrageous: Wijnaldum was injured before Holland match; Blind risked him anyway, LFC ace does hamstring

Gini Wijnaldum was already unfit before his country’s World Cup qualifying defeat last week, claim Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, translated by SportWitness.

According to their report, Netherlands boss risked Liverpool’s midfield powerhouse despite the fact there were concerns about an injury. Danny Blind’s side lost to France at home and Wijnaldum limped off after the hour mark, leaving Liverpool fans furious.

Danny Blind is the father of Daley Blind, Manchester United’s starting centre-back.

The Spanish media call injuries picked up on international duty ‘The FIFA curse’, and we’ve been struck by it again. We can accept that injuries happen, but find it much harder to take when the 25-year-old wasn’t right to play to begin with.

Wijnaldum is almost certain to miss the Premier League tie with Manchester United on Monday, which is a travesty considering he’s started every top flight match so far since his summer transfer from Newcastle. He’s become an integral part of Liverpool’s team, but now we’ll be relying on Emre Can to come and fill his space.

The German is physically exceptional too and will hopefully step up from his time on the sidelines and immediately cover Wijnaldum’s absence.
