Jose Mourinho brought in Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Paul Pogba over the summer for a combined fee of £165 million. It’s almost £100 million more than we spent on new recruits, yet we are two places and three points ahead of them at this early stage of the season.

“I am absolutely not interested in what other clubs spend,” Klopp said (Echo).

“It’s not a competition. You don’t win the league before the season starts. Everyone has their own ideas and possibilities. I am really happy with our possibilities.

“We did what we did because we thought it was the right way, If other clubs have a different strategy they have to do what they think is right.”

Our biggest summer outlay was on Sadio Mane – he moved from Southampton for a fee reportedly around the £35 million mark. £25 million was spent on Gini Wijnaldum, and an assortment of smaller amounts on the likes of Klavan, Karius, and Grujic.
