Steven Gerrard’s return to Melwood yesterday explained

Posted by

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was snapped outside Melwood yesterday. It understandably set off a round of rumour and gossip — was he back to discuss a role at the club with Klopp? Was he going to return the playing squad for the final six months of the season?

It turns out that the explanation is a lot more innocent.

According to the Echo, Gerrard was back in England for some treatment on a reoccurring hamstring problem that has dogged his final season in the MLS.

He LA Galaxy side have already qualified for the post-season playoffs with some games to spare — though that’s not as much of an accomplishment as it sounds given six of the ten sides in each MLS conference progress to the playoff stages.

Gerrard himself says he is still considering his next move. He contract expires at the end of this season.

“I’m wondering whether I should play on for a little bit longer or whether I should call it a day,” he told Radio City Talk. “I haven’t 100 per cent decided on that yet,” he said (Echo).

“I still enjoy playing. I still love coming into training, I still love competing, so if I can carry on and there are opportunities to stay here, or go somewhere else for another six months or 12 months, then I’ll consider it.”
