Liverpool fans have taken great delight down the years in certain players who’ve picked up parts of the Scouse accent. Who could forget Jan Molby’s Danish-Scouse fusion or Didi Hamann’s German-Liverpudlian dialect?!
The latest person to be offered their chance to shine was our current boss Jurgen Klopp, but he gracefully rejected the opportunity, saying that only locals should attempt it…
“You need to be a Scouser to speak Scouse,” he said.
“I don’t have to [speak in Scouse],” admitted Klopp. “It’s good for me because I am not good in it, but I understand much better because a few of our kit men are completely Scouse and talk to me like I am a Scouser.
“Unfortunately I am not and so it is really difficult [to speak it] and I don’t use it, but meanwhile I understand a lot.
“I have to use English all the time so other people can understand me, but you need to be a Scouser to speak Scouse – and this needs a long time to become a Scouser.” (Echo)
Lets just hope he’s around for long enough to become a Scouser!
