Liverpool squad surprisingly valuable – global top ten named

Posted by

We have the tenth most expensive squad in world football and the fifth most expensive in the Premier League, according to a new study by the CIES Football Observatory.

According to their research, our squad is worth around £318 million (Echo).

Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are all ahead of us. United apparently have the most expensive squad in the world, with an estimated value of £641 million (unfortunately for their fans, they still don’t know how to play attacking football despite all that wealth!).

Much of the value of United’s squad is based on their world-record signing of Paul Pogba over the summer. In contrast, we made a net profit of about £10 million in the transfer window.

“Generally speaking, the correlation between the squad cost from a transfer fee perspective and a final position in the domestic league table is very high,” said the CIES Football Observatory in a statement.

Here are the top ten in full:

1) Manchester United – £641m

2) Real Madrid – £565m

3) Manchester City – £545m

4) Barcelona – £432m
