Roberto Firmino gives his interesting thoughts on playing as centre-forward

I think we’re all now agreed – Firmino’s best place in this current Liverpool side is up front.

A few eyebrows were raised when Klopp first started using him there last season, but he has now well and truly usurped Daniel Sturridge as the main man of the attack.

The proof is in the pudding, his defensive work and desire to close down made us look infinitely better against Utd on Monday once he went up front and Lallana came into the midfield.

And, although he started his footballing life in a deeper role, Firmino says he wants to keep learning and keep impressing.

“I train every day to be better in this position,” he told Liverpoolfc.com

“Any position in which I play, I will always do my best and strive to be better.

“I will always play with attacking intent in my position, but I am always looking to help my team-mates in any way I can.

“I am an attacker. However, I don’t forget about defending. I try to do both on the pitch.

“I am the type of player who is demanding of himself so I try to improve in every aspect.” (Echo)

His shift to centre-forward has paid dividends. He ended last season with seven league goals – a one-in-three ratio – and has already bagged four in all competitions this season, the joint-most in our team.
