Joel Matip, on a free transfer? Surely not.
The Cameroon international has looked like one of the bargains of the season so far, especially when considering the excessive amounts of money paid for centre-backs by Premier League clubs in recent time.
He furthered his claim as one of the steals of the season yesterday with a dominant display up against Christian Benteke in Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Crystal Palace.
While Philippe Coutinho stole the spotlight with his breathtaking performance, Matip kept things solid at the back for much of the game and provided the foundations to Liverpool’s attacking football.
He even provided the crucial third goal for his side to round off a great game for the summer signing.
Fans were quick to take to Twitter to recognise the impact of the 25-year-old.
