Liverpool’s most relieved man thankful by the way he was able to say sorry

Dejan Lovren’s name can now be added below Jurgen Klopp’s on the list of those to praise Liverpool’s character in yesterday’s 4-2 win against Crystal Palace.

The centre-back gave children watching on a valuable lesson in both how not to defend, but also how to respond to the mistakes you make.

Lovren’s headed goal posed as the perfect answer to questions over how he would recover from the error he made that allowed James McArthur to make it 1-1 in the first half.

Speaking about his goal, he told Liverpoolfc.com: “Thank God I scored also – I managed to say sorry for the mistake. It was a good performance. The most important thing is the three points.”

“If you want to be in the top four, you need to have the winning mentality – even when you make mistakes. Keep your head up and forget about them. Everyone did that well. We showed big character.”

Things have been going so well for Lovren in a Liverpool shirt this season, so it would have been a huge shame for his error to have had a more significant impact on the game.

His goal came down to the very fact that he wanted it more than his marker and that is a moment he should remember as the season goes by. We have to want it more than everyone else this season.

The Croatian rightly highlights the importance of this mentality if we are to be successful this season.

Let’s hope this determination doesn’t fade away.
