Liverpool’s Brazilian superstar explains team’s crucial mentality and importance of players not getting ahead of themselves

Philippe Coutinho did his best impression of Jurgen Klopp today as he emphasised the importance of the team avoiding getting ahead of itself despite being unbeaten in 11 games.

The Brazilian’s words were as mature and as inspiring as his performances on the pitch as he described the mentality Klopp has installed into his players.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: “We immediately stop thinking about the last match once it’s over and start thinking about our next one. That is our mentality. Our number of wins is good and important, but we leave that aside.”

“If we have a clear target, we must think of things one match at a time and apply all our efforts into it.”

“We must not think about the number of wins that we’ve already achieved. Our target is always to get the three points we aim for and this way we will continue our journey.”

Forgetting the previous match is certainly a questionable method, but while it’s working there is no reason for us not to continue doing that moving forward.

Klopp has very clearly drilled into his players the need to focus on the next game in hand in order to try and achieve that consistency that we have so desperately lacked in previous years.

There always seems to be things for Coutinho and his teammates to improve on as far as their manager is concerned, and these specific performance objectives are going a long way towards ensuring the players come out each week with the same desire and energy.

One match at a time is definitely the approach we need.
