Steven Gerrard wants to play on; likely next club named

There were strong suggestions a few days ago that Steven Gerrard had kicked a ball for the final time, with LA Galaxy crashing out of the MLS play-offs on penalties.

He bagged his effort, but his team-mates all missed theirs and Colorado Rapids won the shoot-out 3-1, progressing to the semis.

The Daily Record though claims that our legendary former skipper isn’t ready to retire just yet and could be offered the chance to join up with his former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

At 36, it could be a convenient swansong, as Gerrard would be a few hours from his home city and practically be guaranteed league winners silverware for the first time in his illustrious career.

He has a great relationship with Rodgers, who’d likely be more than happy to bring Gerrard’s experience into the dressing room, having already signed former Red Kolo Toure in the summer.

We’d actively encourage the move, although it might be awkward when we draw Celtic in the Group Stages of next season’s Champions League!
