Yep, it’s happened Reds.
Iago Aspas, taker of the most infamous corner in our history, has been called up to the Spain squad!
The striker, so dreadful during our fated 2013/14 campaign in which he failed to score a Premier League goal and was so uninspiring whenever called upon, is set to win a cap for one of the world’s best international sides.
This means he could face England at Wembley next week!
The official Spanish account tweeted the news today:
OFICIAL | @aspas10 se incorporará a la concentración de la @SeFutbol en lugar de @diegocosta, que se marcha por lesión pic.twitter.com/z7wHwUXR0P

In fairness, Aspas is a much better player than he showed during his time in England. The 29-year-old was pretty poor for Sevilla in 2014/15 but still registered ten goals in total, but bagged 18 at boyhood club Celta Vigo last term and is already on seven this season.
For us, he notched once in the FA Cup, but is known for his corner against Chelsea… Needing a goal desperately to earn a point and maintain our title charge, Aspas rolled the ball to a Chelsea player on the 18-yard line instead of whipping it in. A bigger collective groan has never circled Anfield!
Liverpool fans couldn’t believe the news on Twitter, but others who’ve watched him more recently claim it’s a justified choice…
I laughed when Aspas said he joined Liverpool to make the Spain squad.
It’s 3 years later and we sold him but he has got his call-up. #LFC

Hard to convince people how good Aspas is. LFC, his most high profile move, was such a mess. Honestly brilliant at Celta – his true level.

I’m at Wembley on Tuesday night, hopefully get to see Aspas in action again…

Iago Aspas called up by Spain as Costa drops out through injury. Fully deserved after his season so far. What a turnaround to his career.

If Trump can be President of the USA, and if Iago Aspas can make the Spanish national team…
No reason why you can't ask that girl out.

Americans thought they had it bad with Trump replacing Obama. I feel for Spaniards, Iago Aspas just replaced Diego Costa in the Spain squad.
