We wonder how many times we’ll have to write this article in the coming years..?
A pattern seems to be emerging: Coutinho puts in a spellbinding performance for either Liverpool or Brazil and he’s immediately linked to Barcelona.
It’s like clockwork.
Following his stunner against Argentina for Brazil last night, Catalan paper SPORT, a recognised propaganda arm of Barca, splashed our no.10 all over their back-page, claiming he has ‘Barcelona DNA’ and that he’s Luis Enrique’s ‘no.1 priority’.

It kind of ruins our enjoyment of his international performance, in a way. What’s more irritating is that he’s in South America with Neymar in his ear – and the likes of Dani Alves similarly waxing lyrical about life in Spain.
For a shy Brazilian, this is obviously something which he’ll mull over – it’d be impossible not to. He’s already one of the world’s top football players and will want the best for his family and career.
Liverpool simply need to do all we can to convince him of his defining role in Jurgen Klopp’s project. At Barca, he wouldn’t naturally fit in the side in his proper position on the left, whereas for us – he’s the main man, worshipped by the fans and gets to work for the best manager on the planet.
