Reds defender reflects on trying to adapt to new style and the opportunity to play under Jurgen Klopp

Ragnar Klavan has been a surprise package so far under Jurgen Klopp this season, putting in solid displays when called upon.

The Estonian arrived from German side Augsburg in the summer and has been an reliable back up centre-back to Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren.

Klavan has admitted to it taking time for him to get up to speed with Jurgen Klopp’s demands following his move to England.

Liverpoolfc.com quoted him from the latest edition of the official Liverpool FC magazine, where he said: “I have never played this kind of style – I was used to different styles of football – so it was important we had a really good pre-season. We worked a lot in the summer.”

“Of course, I knew a little bit about how they played under him, but I didn’t know the detail behind it.”

“We are working on detail behind it. We are working on detail all the time here and it takes time to get used to this.”

“For me, I feel really lucky to be here every day playing for him and learning something new.”

The 31-year-old looks to have settled down quickly and has presented himself as a very capable central defender.

His apparent concerns over adapting to Jurgen Klopp’s style haven’t been noticeable, either, which demonstrates how hard he has been working to ensure he is meeting his manager’s standards.

We need players who know what an honour it is to play for Liverpool and players who are determined to be successful at this club. We have that in Klavan.

Not only does he bring experience to the squad but he also brings a desire to impress in the same way an up and coming youth prospect does.
